Landing Nets & Carp Care
The British landing nets are different in both form and function from American
nets. They are very large (designed for big carp not puny 5 lb bass) and roughly
triangular with just two arms supporting the net. These arms are easily
removable from the handle to give a compact, easily packed and carried package.
The net material is very soft and fine textured so as to prevent damage to the
fish. The net will not dislodge scales or split fins. The fish is lifted
out of the water by grasping the net, not by lifting with the handle. Once out
of the water, the fish should be gently places on a soft surface, either an
unhooking mat or a soft pad of some sort. Weigh slings are used to safely and
securely hold the fish for the weighing. Never hook the scale directly
onto the fish.
