The leads (pronounced "leds" and meaning sinkers) used in Euro style carping have a slightly different function than sinkers in conventional American fishing. They not only hold the bait on or near the bottom but also frequently are responsible for setting the hook. The basic idea is to use a fairly heavy weight, 3-4ozs, so that when the fish feels the hook and bolts, the weight of the lead is sufficient to set the hook. Another key difference between these leads and conventional American sinkers is that these are designed with the safety of the fish in mind. If the line breaks with a fish on, the lead will disassemble and fall off greatly reducing the chance of the fish getting hung up on a snag and increasing its chance to shed the hook.
These leads are designed primarily for in-line use, that is with the line
running through the center of the lead. The wide end of the leads has a
rubber insert that grabs the swivel and the narrow end, a tapered tail that
holds a length of anti-tangle tubing.
However, the Combi Lead Converters allow
them to be easily changed into swivel bombs. The center plastic tube is
removed and replaced by a Combi Lead Shaft bearing a swivel. The end of the
swivel can then be clipped to the line.

Is Kemosabe a real word? What does it
really mean?
Kemosabe (or any of the other various spellings) *is* a real
word. It's from the language of the Potowatomie Indians. The Potowatomie Indians
lived in and around Michigan. (The Lone Ranger originated at WXYZ in Detroit.)
One of the shows' producers, Jim Jewell, had a father-in-law who ran a boy's
camp named "Camp Kee-mo-sah-bee."
Kemosabe means "faithful friend" or "trusty scout."
Aminosabe (a-mean-oh sah-bee) means faithful bait or trusty attractant.
